Instructor - Sensei Jason Sandford

Jason started practising Karate on the Kapiti Coast at the age of 9 and received his first Shodan at the age of 15. Shortly after receiving his black belt, the Chief Instructor of this style died and Jason took over running the club for 12 months before leaving the area to attend University in Wellington.

Jason Joined the Victoria University Goju Ryu Dojo where he trained for five years attaining 1st kyu before leaving NZ to live in England, where he spent the next 11 years.

Whilst in England, he started training in other martial arts for want of a Goju Ryu Dojo in the area.

Shortly after his arrival back in New Zealand, he joined the legal team at Fonterra, and is based in Hamilton.

Jason was graded to Shodan by Shihan May in 2007 and is looking forward to progressing his training in Goju Ryu.

Jason is 42 years old and lives in Katikati, Western Bay of Plenty, with his wife and 2 year old son.

Karate is in his blood and he intends to continue training for as long as he can tie his own obi.

Jason was graded to Ni Dan in October 2008, by Kikugawa Sensei.

He began a new dojo in Katikati in May 2009, with Shihan May's support.
